About Clearpath

The garage door company that turns up when it says it will

Clearpath Garage Doors has spent more than fifteen years on Gauteng driveways, and in that time we have learned that the hard part of this trade is not the door. It is the phone call that never gets returned.

We are a small, owner-run outfit. When you book, the job goes to one of our own technicians — not to whichever subcontractor picked up first. Our vehicles carry torsion springs, cables, rollers, brackets and the motors we fit most often, which is why the large majority of our repairs are finished on the first visit instead of the third.

We will also tell you when a door is not worth saving. If your twenty-year-old tip-up needs R5 000 of welding and a new steel sectional costs R8 500, we will say so, even though the repair is the easier sale. That answer costs us money regularly. We give it anyway.

01 — Repairs

Garage door repairs

Broken spring, frayed cable, buckled panel, door off its track. We diagnose on site, quote before we touch anything, and only carry on once you have said yes. Most repairs are done in a single visit because the parts are already on the vehicle.

Typical repair: 1–2 hours on site

02 — Emergency

Emergency garage door repairs

A garage door jammed halfway open is an open door. We run emergency callouts across Gauteng seven days a week, and where we cannot fully repair it on the spot, we secure the opening before we leave.

03 — Installation

New garage door installation

Steel, aluminium, hardwood, roller or sectional — measured to your actual opening, not to a standard size that nearly fits. We remove the old door, fit the new one, balance the springs and hand it over working.

04 — Automation

Garage door automation

Turn a manual door into an automatic one. We size the motor to the weight of your door, wire it properly, set the safety reverse and programme your remotes before we leave the driveway.

Types of garage doors

Choosing the right garage door for your home

There is no single best garage door — there is the door that suits your opening, your budget, your motor and the weather your driveway takes. Here is the honest version of each.

Charcoal sectional garage door fitted to a modern Gauteng home

Most popular

Sectional garage doors

Four or five hinged panels that lift and fold flat against the garage ceiling, so you keep the full width of the opening and can still park right up against the door.

Brown roller garage door rolled down over a residential garage

Space-saving

Roller garage doors

The door curls into a drum above the opening. Nothing hangs from the ceiling, which makes roller doors the sensible answer for garages with storage racks or a low roof.

Aluminium full-view garage door with glazed panels on a modern home

Modern

Aluminium garage doors

Light on the motor, immune to rust and happy to carry big glass panels. If you want the architectural, full-view look, this is the frame that does it.

Timeless

Wooden garage doors

Meranti still does something no steel door manages. Fit it, seal it, and keep sealing it — a wooden door rewards maintenance and punishes neglect.

Best value

Steel garage doors

The workhorse of the Gauteng suburb. Powder-coated steel, solid security, and the lowest cost per square metre of any door we fit.

Single garages

Tip-up garage doors

One solid panel that tips up and back on a counterbalanced frame. Common on older Gauteng homes, cheap to automate, and still perfectly serviceable.

The upside

What you actually get

01

A door that opens the first time you press the button

No standing in the rain in Northcliff pressing a remote at a door that is pretending not to hear you. A properly balanced door and a correctly sized motor simply work.

02

Security you can actually rely on

A garage door that does not seal, does not lock or does not close all the way is the easiest way into your house. Fixing it is a security upgrade, not a cosmetic one.

03

One visit, not three

We stock the parts that fail: torsion springs, cables, rollers, brackets, capacitors and the common motor boards. Most jobs finish on the day we arrive.

04

A price before we start

You get a written quote on site. You approve it before a single bracket comes off. Nothing is added afterwards.

05

A motor that survives load shedding

Every motor we fit can be specified with battery backup, so a two-hour block of Stage 4 does not mean pushing a hundred-kilogram door up by hand.

06

Kerb appeal you did not have to renovate for

The garage door is often a third of everything you see from the street. A new one changes the face of the house for a fraction of what a facelift costs.

Why choose us

Why Gauteng homeowners phone Clearpath back

Every garage door company on the first page of Google claims to be reliable. Here is what we actually do differently — including the part that costs us work.

01We are the technicians, not a lead-generation site

A large slice of the "garage door companies" you will find online are advertising portals that sell your phone number to whoever pays for it. You never know who is pulling into your driveway. With us, the person who quotes you is the person who does the work, and his name is on the job card.

02The parts are already on the vehicle

Torsion springs in the common sizes, cables, rollers, hinges, brackets, capacitors, remotes and the motors we fit most often. That is why a broken spring in Benoni at 09:00 is usually a working door by lunchtime rather than a quote and a promise.

03A 12-month workmanship guarantee, in writing

The manufacturer warranty covers the hardware. Our guarantee covers our work. If a door or motor we installed fails because of how we installed it, we come back at our cost. You get it on paper, not as a verbal promise at the gate.

04Fixed pricing, agreed before we start

No "we will see what it needs once we are in there." We diagnose, we hand you a written price, and that is the price. If we find something genuinely unexpected, we stop and phone you rather than adding it to the invoice.

05We will talk you out of the wrong job

If your old door needs R5 500 of repairs and a new steel sectional is R8 500 fitted, we will tell you to replace it. If your door is fine and you have simply been sold a story about needing a whole new system, we will tell you that too. It is the least profitable sentence we say, and it is the reason people phone us again three years later.

Our process

From phone call to a door that works — four steps

01

Tell us what the door is doing

Fill in the form or phone 0860 017 435 and describe it in your own words. "It goes up halfway and stops" tells us more than you think. A photo on WhatsApp usually settles it.

02

We book a real time slot

Not "sometime Thursday". An actual arrival window, confirmed, with the name of the technician who is coming to you.

03

On-site diagnosis, written quote

We inspect the door, the springs, the cables, the tracks and the motor, explain what we found in plain language, and hand you a fixed price. You decide. Walking away costs you nothing.

04

We do the work and clean up

Most repairs and services are finished the same day. Installations are usually a day per door. We test it with you standing there, hand over the remotes and paperwork, and take our mess with us.

How much does a new garage door cost in South Africa?

As a working range for 2026: a single steel sectional door usually lands between R6 500 and R11 000 supplied and fitted, a double steel sectional between R11 000 and R18 000, and aluminium or hardwood doors climb from roughly R18 000 into the R60 000s depending on size, glazing and finish. Automation is a separate line item, generally R4 500 to R9 500 installed depending on the motor.

Those are honest ballparks, not a quote. The opening size, the state of your lintel and whether the old door has to come out all move the number. We measure on site and give you one written price. See our 2026 garage door price guide for a full breakdown.

My garage door will not open. What is usually wrong?

Nine times out of ten it is one of four things: a broken torsion or extension spring, a snapped cable, a failed motor gearbox, or a door that has jumped its track after being forced. A broken spring is the most common of the lot, and it is the reason the door suddenly feels like it weighs a hundred kilograms. Do not keep pressing the remote — you will burn out the motor trying to lift a door the springs are supposed to be carrying.

Can you automate my existing garage door?

Usually, yes. If the door is structurally sound, tracks straight and is properly balanced, we can fit a motor to it. Sectional and tip-up doors take a rail-driven operator; roller doors take a tube motor or a side-mounted unit. Where a door is badly rusted, warped or fitted with springs that are past their life, we will tell you honestly that automating it is throwing money at a problem. See garage door automation.

Which garage door motor is the best in South Africa?

For the Gauteng market we most often fit Centurion (the D5 Evo and the RoboSlide are the ones you will see in estates), ET Systems and Digi. The right answer depends on the door: a heavy double hardwood door needs more pulling power than a light single steel door, and a household that gets hit hard by load shedding wants a motor with a proper battery backup. We will spec it to your door, not to what is on special.

How often should a garage door be serviced?

Once a year for a normal household, and every six months if the door cycles more than about ten times a day — think of a family with three cars, or a complex where the door is opened constantly. A service is not a luxury item: springs, rollers and cables wear out on a schedule, and replacing a R400 roller is a great deal cheaper than replacing the R6 000 panel it eventually tears.

Do you work after hours and on weekends?

We run emergency callouts seven days a week for doors that are stuck open, stuck closed or hanging off the track — a garage door that will not close is a security problem, not an inconvenience, and we treat it that way. Standard bookings run Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 18:00, and Saturday mornings. See emergency garage door repairs.

How long does a new garage door installation take?

A straight swap — old door out, new door in, same opening — is usually a half-day job for a single and most of a day for a double. Add automation and you are looking at a full day. New builds and openings that need a new lintel, new steelwork or brickwork made good take longer, and we will tell you that up front rather than discover it at 16:00.

Do you give a guarantee on your work?

Yes. Every door, motor and repair we carry out is covered by a 12-month workmanship guarantee in writing, and the manufacturer's warranty on the hardware runs alongside it. If something we installed fails because of how we installed it, we come back and we do not charge you again.
